Tips for Better Home Movies:
Try
to plan your shots ahead of time. Focus on the information that
you're trying to convey and get it done in about 5 to 8 seconds.
To keep the audience entertained, most shots should be in this
range, with some as small as 3 seconds or as long as 12 seconds.
In my opinion, the cheap cost of video has made our home movie
techniques very sloppy, providing hours of dull entertainment.
The cost of film may be higher, but it pushes us to become better
cinematographers. So, keep those shots short. Your audience will thank
you!
Quick
Hints:
Most people know that film should be
kept refrigerated before and after using. However, just as
important is giving the film time to acclimate to room temperature
before using. Failure to do this can cause an accumulation of
moisture inside your camera and on the film surface, which is generally
not a good place for moisture to be.
For best results, allow the film to sit at room temperature for about an hour prior to loading it into your camera.
